Bunny Sunday

Perfect timing ~ my bunny bracelet is featured today in this great Etsy Treasury of nothin' but bunnies!  (Click the link to view the actual Treasury and be taken to each artists shop in order to purchase one of these beautiful items for someone's Easter basket, if you are so inclined :)
Another reason this Treasury is such great timing  ~ Easter is only a week away and for rabbits, that often means bad news, as people buy rabbits as impulse gifts for their children.  This leads to countless rabbits being abandoned months later when they are no longer "cute".  If you are thinking about adding a rabbit to your family, please do some research (The House Rabbit Society has a wealth of information at http://www.rabbits.org/) and adopt from your local rescue.  Know that rabbits can live to be 10-12 years old and that they are social creatures, they love human interaction and should never be left outside in a hutch.

Our Patches was an Easter bunny ~ bought for a little girl's Easter basket and kept in a small cage more appropriately sized for a guinea pig.  Within months, the novelty had worn off and Patches was on Craigslist looking for a new home.
Bunnies are special little creatures and can bring a lot of joy into your home, just like Patches did to ours.  But PLEASE, adopt from a rescue, do your bunny homework and love them their whole lives.  You'll be glad you did!

excellent advice, our old rabbit Anya was a rescue bunny and if we ever get another rabbit, we'll do the same

I cringe when I see bunnies and chicks front and center at stores around Easter. I worry about how many of them will not go to proper homes and will not receive the proper care.
Glad that Patches has a happy story to tell!

Patches is gorgeous, I just want to smoosh his (?) little face :).

I had a bunny when I was a little girl. 'He' started pulling his fur out shortly after we got him and my parents thought he was lonely and wanted him to have the company of other bunnies so he was re-homed at a lovely 'Pets Corner' near my home, where two days after he arrived we discovered 'Wilfie' was in fact a Winifred and had a litter of kits!!

This was in the late 70's/early 80's when people didn't realize how intelligent bunnies can be and she was definitely kept clean and loved and had lots of space to bounce around in his little run that Dad made, but if I had a bunny now I'd do everything SO differently.

Your bunny bracelet is beautiful. Then again, so is all of your jewelry!

I can't stand when people buy their children bunnies for Easter and then discard them weeks later. It drives me crazy!

I had two bunnies. Took care of them for their entire lives since they were 3 months old, and you are right, they are very social creatures. They craved my attention more than they did each other.

What do you think about bunnies being pets for children? I think kids are better suited for guinea pigs.

That's how I ended up with 2 of my roos. They were Easter chicks.
