Snuffy meets Stinky

Yesterday morning, I went outside early to feed everyone.  As soon as I walked out the front door, I smelled it.  A skunk.  We've had a few around here in the past and usually as long as we leave them alone, they eventually go find somewhere else to live.  As I walked out to the horses, it seemed like the smell was following me.  And that is when I turned around and saw Snuffy.  Following me.  Yep, he'd apparently had a run in with Mr. Skunk.  And lost.

So, I jumped online and found a recipe for removing skunk odor from dogs that haven't yet learned that skunks are not to be messed with.  A simple concoction of hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and dish soap.

And guess what?  IT ACTUALLY WORKED!

Snuffy was very contrite.  "Sorry mom, I just couldn't help myself."  Poor guy.

If you ever need the recipe (which I really hope you don't), you can find it here.  There are a few warnings that come along with this (such as don't put the mixture in a spray bottle for fear of it exploding).  Just little stuff like that.  So, PLEASE heed the warnings!  I don't want to be responsible for making a bad situation worse.  :)

So cool that it worked, yeah Hydrogen peroxide and baking soda can be pretty explosive. Burnt pans can be cleaned up by simmered water with some vinegar and baking soda, when you add the Bsoda it is VERY EXCITING.....

Snuffy looks so sorry for getting skunked Mom.

I can remember laughing until my sides hurt listening to one of our friends tell about his dog that got skunked. He's a character anyway and when he tells a story he can make the worst situation funny.

Hey, I just went back and read my post about my friends dog. Thats the same recipe that was recommended for the smell.

I had to laugh reading it again.

I used to have a Springer Spaniel who just loved to roll in fox poo. That stuff should be classed as a weapon of mass destruction!

We did some research and found that tomato ketchup gets rid of the smell, you just rub it all over your dog, then shampoo it out and you should have a neutral-smelling pooch in no time.

Maybe it's worth trying on Skunk spray? I think I'd rather smell like a Big Mac than run the risk of blowing up my dog! *pmsl*

Awww poor Snuffy. Thank heavens your Mom found something to get rid of the stink! I mean seriously is there anything stinkier than the lingering stink of skunk? No answer required :)

Poor Snuffy, that has to be the most awful smell. I bet there was a lot of gratitude after the bath.

He looks so sad in that pic it makes me laugh. I've also heard Febreeze works quite well if its not too bad, but thankfully we have never had to worry about that, only porcupines.
