Sweet Tooth

I love to bake. I always have, ever since I was a little girl. And of course, I love to eat what I bake! Lately though, I'm trying to cut way down on the amount of sweets I eat. And it's not easy. Especially when my hubby always wants me to make "something sweet" for him in the evenings. Tonight, he wanted chocolate chip cookies. Somebody help me...

This is my favorite cookbook. It was my mom's and is copyright March 1968... (I had just barely cleared my first birthday!) It's pages are tattered, stained and sometimes ripped out of the book completely.

The recipes in this cookbook are timeless. Not so much for the fashions in the pictures! (Lovin' the June Cleaver-esque dress)
Here is the recipe for "Chocolate Chippers", otherwise known as Chocolate Chip Cookies. It is really the best recipe I have ever come across. And it calls for shortening (good old Crisco) and you MUST use it, no substitutions. I'm not sure what is in shortening and probably don't want to know, but I've tried to substitute butter in the past and the cookies just do not come out right. I am sure I have turned to this page in the cookbook hundreds of times over the years.... Mmmmm.... not only do I love the cookies, I really love the cookie dough! (But, I didn't eat any tonight, trying to have some willpower!)But, maybe I could have just ONE....
What is your favorite chocolate chip recipe?

Your making my mouth water! My fave recipe I found in a Paula Deen magazine...and now I can't find it again. But the cookies were double chocolate chip, peaunut butter, and coconut. YUMMMM!

OHHH those look GOOD!! Love that cookbook!
I find it hard to believe you only ate one of those yummy cookies...

My favorite recipe is for Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookies, off the back of the Butter Flavor Crisco tub. Yum. And you're right, you HAVE to use the crisco.

I remember that cookbook, my Mom use to have one just like it when I was growing up, don't know what happened to it.

My favorite chocolate chip cookie is actually an oatmeal cookie with chocolate chips and walnuts in it. Mmmmmm! Any good oatmeal cookie recipe will do. I may have to make some now that you've reminded me. BTW, have you ever tried chocolate chip banana bread? Heaven in a loaf.

Forgot to mention that my mom used to use that cookbook. I remember it well. But she gave me a Betty Crocker hard bound cookbook when I was 23 that I still have 35 years later - no covers, pages missing, cookie dough and butter stains and all - I still love it and use it. and it has the choc. chip cookie recipe I always use. : )

Oh my gosh! My Mom has that same cookbook and the chocolate chippers is my favourite cookie recipe! Every time we get together we still bake cookies together from that book. :-)
