I love all things rusted and weathered, so the fact that this trough had some rust at the bottom only added to the charm of it for me. I liked the rustic, bare metal appeal.... until I went to the feed store last week and saw one out front painted a very bright PURPLE. Wow, it was really stunning and full of colorful flowers to boot.
I knew what I had to do. And I knew exactly what color mine would be...
TURQUOISE! Isn't this gorgeous? I think it really makes the flowers pop. I'm really happy with the result. As for the mailbox sitting there, that's another castoff I found and have not been sure what do with. Plant flowers in it? That was my original thought. But I had an idea the other day to put it on a post next to the gate of my garden and store my garden hand tools in it. Of course, now I will feel the need to paint it. Maybe bright red or yellow. Or maybe hot pink! (another post for another day)...

I love it! it really makes the flowers pop...can't wait to see what you do with the mailbox
It looks great! Old mailboxes make great nesting areas for birds, btw. A wren uses one on my property. :)
Love it. Also really love whatever you're using to enclose your patio - you can see through it but it doesn't appear fence-like. What is it?
I love it and the color is perfect for you. I vote for red for the mailbox...great idea.
WOW! love the color! I've done that in the past. I painted flower pots we had around a pond tq. and grn once and it was beautiful!
Definitely looks great. You've inspired me, its time to go out and do some planting...or painting.
Great color! I'd go with red on the mailbox too.
What is that with the wagon wheels in the picture? Looks like a bench maybe?
Wow! You have a beautiful spread and love the the new flower box all spiffed up :)
I bet the turquiose just looks terrific in your yard!!! And wait till the flowers fill out and hang over the edge!
Looks great! We had an old water trough just like it that leaked and we gave it to the OH's parents to use it just like you did!
It looks gorgeous. Don't forget to show us pics of the mailbox when you get it done.

Sheesh, that is so pretty. Makes me long for Arizona. Love your place.
Very nice!! I would never have thought that the paint would make the plants stand out like that!
