Bunny Sunday

Hi everybun.  Turbo here. 

Mom is out of town, so I hijacked the computer for Bunny Sunday.  She's been too busy lately to post any pics of me, so I guess I have to do it myself!

And I have no problem doing that, because I am a BUNNY DIVA.

And while I have your attention, I'd just like to talk about this Easter Bunny thing.  We all know the Easter Bunny is cute and cuddly (although not as much as me) and some people think it is a great idea to give bunnies as gifts for Easter.  PLEASE people, we're not toys and we're not impulse gifts for small children.  We can live a long time (I'm going on 5 and plan to live a lot longer than that) and we require lots of time, attention and care.  And we like to live in the house with you!  (I'm spoiled, I also have a huge outdoor house I get out in when the weather is not too hot or cold).

How about giving a stuffed bunny rabbit as a gift?  Or a chocolate bunny?  Or maybe some bunny jewelry (oh, by the way, my mom makes lots of bunny jewelry, check out her Etsy shop!).  Just please don't buy one of my cousins to put in someone's Easter basket.

Bunny Sunday

This post was SUPPOSED to be about another raffle I was going to hold to benefit Heartland Rabbit Rescue. The last raffle I hosted for them back in September was a big success and we raised a lot of money to help the bunnies. I actually did post about it this morning, but now I am forced to edit it.

The problem is that PayPal will not allow a "Buy Now" button to be placed on my blog for a raffle. Turns out, they consider it gambling, which is a prohibited use. Who knew?

And my "hired help" was already practicing their winning-raffle-ticket-drawing skills!

I am still intent on raising some money for the bunnies. So, rather than hosting a raffle, I will be donating 25% of all sales in my Etsy or Artfire shop through Easter to Heartland Rabbit Rescue. If you'd prefer to just make a donation directly to Heartland, you can do so through their website here. No amount is too small and will be greatly appreciated.

Lastly, my purpose for the raffle was not only to raise money to help the rescue, but also to raise awareness as Easter approaches that bunnies should be not bought on a whim to be given in an Easter basket. These special little creatures can live long lives (sometimes 10-12 years or longer) and that, along with other factors, should always be taken into consideration when welcoming a rabbit into your home. Make Mine Chocolate

The Rabbit Muse has a post on her blog today - Just Say No to the Easter Bunny. She provided some great info and I wanted to spread the message and add some of my own insight.Every year right before Easter you start seeing ads for baby bunnies for sale... And every year shortly after Easter you start seeing ads for "free bunnies" or worse yet, you start seeing domestic bunnies dumped on the side of the road. Make Mine Chocolate has a simple message: buy a chocolate bunny this Easter instead of a live one!

I have personal experience with this. Patches was an "Easter bunny".

I'm sure she was little when she was purchased from a pet store right before Easter. Several months later, when the novelty wore off for the people who purchased her, she weighed about 5 lbs. (When I responded to their ad, they said "she got big"). DUH. They had her in a hamster cage and she could barely turn around! Now she weighs in at 10 lbs. I bet the pet store sold her as a mini-lop, too, which she clearly isn't.

My message this Easter: If you really want a bunny, adopt one from a rescue and love them their whole lives!
