Western Landscape Photo Contest

Piper's New Friends

Piper is making all kinds of new friends while she is away at school.  She had fun tracking these cattle around the arena the other day.  She went right to them and wasn't afraid at all.

That big white one is almost as big as Piper!  Yikes.  I keep thinking she is getting so much bigger and filling out, but really, she is still little. 

Her training is going well and I'm seeing progress every time I go watch.  Very exciting!  I am missing having her at home, though, and I know the other horses are wondering where she went.  Another couple of weeks and she'll be back and all will be right on the ranch again...

Monday Motivation

If this isn't motivating on a Monday morning, I don't know what is.  Serious determination!

This is a picture of my brother from the Fifth Third River Run Race in Grand Rapids, Michigan, over this past weekend.  He placed 3rd ~ way to go Grant!  You can check out more pics (and more determination) from the race here.  (Fifth Third - looks like a typo, I know, but that's actually the name of it)

Piper's Training - Week 2

Today is 2 years to the day that I brought Piper home from Equine Voices.  Wow, how time flies!  She's come a long way from the 10 month old PMU filly who was headed to auction (you can still see the "105" that was shaved into her side)...

To this big beautiful girl:

Colt did a great job with her last week and Piper made tons of progress.  So much so, that today I got to ride her around the arena!

We walked...

We trotted...

We laughed, we cried..    OK, just kidding about that part.  We even loped!  I didn't ride her that long, but it sure felt great to be riding her, actually riding and having her respond.  She still has work left to do, but she is coming along really nicely.

I'm not proud of her at all.  Can you tell?

Silly Fly Masks

For those of you who appreciated the fly mask humor from Monday ~ here are a few more absolutely silly fly mask designs.  I did a google search for "designer fly mask" and was amazed at all the different styles out there! 

Pirate anyone?

I like this next one even better than the one that Phoenix is sporting.  Definitely mare apparel, though.

You can find these 2, among others, at SSTack.com.   Horse.com also has some really cute ones, including crossed eyes with a fly or butterfly on the nose.

I still haven't gotten used to seeing Phoenix with his on and every time he turns toward me it catches me off guard and I have a good laugh.  I'm laughing WITH you Phoenix, not AT you... really!
