Valentine and Gerty

I've posted lots about the bunnies and the horses, but haven't featured our goats yet.

This is Valentine. She is an alpine. We adopted her as a buddy for our first goat, Gerty (below). We take them with us when we go riding and they trot right along between the horses.

Valentine is the more mischievous of the two...she has learned how to climb over their fence and yesterday ended up on our patio, looking in the front door...

And here is Gerty. She is a nigerian. Definitely the sweeter of the two (although we love them both!). Their personalities are night and day different. Valentine is curious and brave and likes to escape their pen and explore, while Gerty is meek and content to stay within the safety of their fence.

Goats really do have more personality than you'd think!

Best Bunny Buddies

Patches and Nutmeg (aka Nutty Brown) are inseparable. We see them like this everyday, but I still can't help wanting to snap a picture of them. They are TOO CUTE together.

Nutmeg is half the size of Patches, but she is the BOSS of her (actually, the boss of everyone in our house, including Angel, our rottie).

They have the run of the house when we are home, and you can always find them hanging out together, just chillin'...

or snoozin'...

A Little Something Extra

These lip balms were made by a fellow Etsyian, Teresa ,of BellaDonna10. She made the labels especially for me with Heart of a Cowgirl logo. Cute, huh? We did a trade for some of my jewelry and she made me 50 of these little cuties. I am going to include them as a thank you with my orders.

Cheyenne Cowgirls

I found this unfinished wooden tray (bread board?) at a thrift store awhile back and bought it figuring I would think of something fun to make with it. Then I came across this vintage picture of a group of old time cowgirls...the bottom of the picture says "Cowgirls, Rodeo, Cheyenne, Wyo."
Cowgirls back in the days of this picture had some real guts!

(Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo is touted as "The Daddy of 'Em All" and is held each year in July).

I stained the tray, then decoupaged (yep, good 'ole Mod Podge) the picture to the tray and finished with a clear sealant. I really like how it turned out.
I think the cowgirl in the middle is me from a previous life...

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL???

Here is Matthew at his first practice with pads! He had some equipment malfunctions (upside down knee pads), but Uncle Lee (aka Coach Lee) got him straightened out and ready to go out. I think it took him some getting used to running around in all that gear, but he did a pretty good job.

I don't know what happened to my little pea pod nephew.... he is growing up, I guess (Aunt wipes a tear from eye)

Baby Piper

As a follow up to my previous post, here is a pic of Piper when she was brought from the PMU farm in Canada to Equine Voices Sanctuary in October 2007.

She was only 6 months old when she made the trip from Canada to Arizona with a load of other mares and foals who had been saved from going to slaughter. The "105" that is shaved on her side was her "auction" number. We don't know what happened to her mother.

She spent six months at Equine Voices Sanctuary before she found me. :) As you have already seen from the previous pics, she is growing into a beautiful little horse. She is smart and willing to learn and easy to work with. She has been a great addition to our ranch! And to think that she might not have been here at all...

Piper's September Pic

We've had Piper for 4 months now. She was just a year old when we brought her home. I've been taking a pic of her every month to track her growth. She has gained almost 100 lbs. since we've had her and gotten a little taller. She's growing into a big horse! Although she is still little. :) Lee took this picture of us yesterday....

She's in her lanky adolescent stage...her front end hasn't caught up to her back end yet. She has a lot of growing left to do.

Here she is 3 months ago on June 3rd...

Our Great Green Globe Blog

I received an e-mail yesterday that I had been featured on this blog. The blog author, Teri, does a daily spotlight on a small artist or business that is doing something little to impact the world, in particular using recycled or sustainable materials in their designs. She saw my cowgirl wristlets and bags on my Etsy site and decided to feature them in her blog. Very cool!
