Piper and Big Sister Sassy

We rearranged the horse pens this weekend. Sassy and Piper are now in together and getting along fine. We decided to go ahead and put them together since Piper kept lying down and rolling underneath the panels separating her and Sassy and ended up on her side anyway.

Here they are eating breakfast this morning.....
Sassy is not a very big horse, so you can see how little Piper is. Although, Lee commented this morning that Piper is looking bigger. I did put the weight tape on her yesterday and even though it is not 100% accurate, she is now up to about 580 lbs, from approximately 525 when we first brought her home. She's growing up!

Patches Finds Her Long Lost Cousin

I couldn't help it, I had to buy this when I saw it. Am I a mean bunny mom? You've got to admit, there is a resemblance...

It even has a little cowboy hat on. Fits in perfect at the ranch....

My Latest Design

I've been tossing around the idea of making these little cowgirl boot top change purse/wallet/ cell phone/business card holder (you decide the use!) for awhile now.... I have a stash of old boots and thought they would be cute, but the design in my head just wasn't doing anything for me. Then, the other day, it hit me, add a beaded "bracelet" and make them into wristlets...

I think this one turned out pretty cute! I listed the first one in my Etsy shop today, so we'll see what other people think...

I'm off to tear apart more boots....

Afternoon at Patagonia Lake

Saturday afternoon we loaded up Angel and Snuffy (and Matthew!) and went down to Patagonia Lake. We knew that Snuffy loves water, but he has never been to a lake before. It didn't take him long to figure it out!

We threw sticks out for Snuffy and he swam out and retrieved them OVER AND OVER. When he got tired he would sit in the water and wait for the next stick. Angel, on the other hand, is not too crazy about the water, although she saw Snuffy out there swimming and really wanted to go out, but only managed to get chest deep in the water....

Matthew played in the Mud while Snuffy waited for him to throw the stick. "THROW THE STICK! PLEASE , PLEASE THROW THE STICK!"

We took a break and ate cheese and crackers...and Angel begged. "YOU CAN'T RESIST THIS FACE!"

Round pen for Piper

We bought some used fence panels from our neighbor to make a round pen where we can work with and train Piper. They have a nice ranchy appeal... green and brown -- blends right in with the terrain! I'm going to make a sign to hang above the gate: Heart of a Cowgirl --- advertising, advertising... ha ha.

Angel always seems to get in every picture I take out here. She has to supervise anything new and give it her approval.

So far we have worked Piper in there twice and she is doing great. She was afraid of the white horse trailer at first, but Lee worked her through it so she just goes by and doesn't pay too much attention to it. Everything is new to her, so we have to be patient. That is the key.

An Arizona Summer Morning

Up at 5:30 this morning, gotta get outside before the scorching heat sets in. I thought I'd take some pics of the garden, it is doing pretty well, even in this heat. Most of the garden is dedicated to what I call the "Bunny Salad Bar". Here's a pic:

The salad bar includes catnip, lemon balm, thyme, mint, parsley, cilantro, oregano and lambs ear. The bunnies love it all!

We also have some jalapenos, zuchinni and tomatos growing (not for the bunnies, for us).

I just noticed while posting this pic that something is eating my ripe tomato! Maybe a little garden mouse... Might have to put the cage around the tomato to keep critters out.

More bunny salad bar! Carrots, cilantro and parsley. And some sunflowers scattered here and there...

After checking out the garden, gathered some eggs from the chickens....

Thanks Red Chicken!

Piper comes home

Well, I left the horse sanctuary and knew that I wanted to bring one of the horses home. Her name is Piper, and she is a yearling filly, just turned one in May this year. So far, she is doing great! We are having fun working with her. She is a very curious and smart little girl! Here she is the day I brought her home...

And here she is a month later (WOW, it really has been a month already! She seems like she has always been here with us.)
